Black metal is a really beautiful genre (yes, beautiful!) a lot of people take it the wrong way though I think, sure, the whole "gr1m" thing is pretty hilarious... But the way I see black metal is that it's supposed to embrace the beauty of the darker things in life and even nature. :D
On another note I chose Norwegian black metal, simply because it's just... awesome. US black metal is okay but I find that a lot of them are "suicidal black metal" (wtf?).
Also agree with Terrible Lizard that a lot of great black metal comes from France. =)
