Eric B & Rakim - Paid in Full
Probably my favourite old school hip-hop album. It's got great grooves and great mc-ing and it doesn't have any of that anger that came in with public enemy and NWA. This is just groovy brilliant hip hop.
**** Buttons - Street Horrrsing
**** Buttons make ambient walls of sound. Kind of like an electronic Mogwai. As with most post-rock style stuff, the soundscapes are packed with emotion and drama. The whole album makes for a really interesting headphone listening experience. JUst sit back and let sound wash over you.
Gustav Mahler - Symphony no. 8
Not really an album I can recommend due to the fact that I have no idea which orchestra is playing the version I have, but I can definitely recommend it as a piece of music. A brilliant Choral and Orchestral piece that knocks my socks off.
The Horrors - Strange House
I know its shamelessly derivative and contrived, and all those stupid scene kids love it cause they can fit into their 8 year old sisters jeans and they have hair that engulfs the sun. (As a side note, don't ever try a back combed hair style. I used to have Robert Smith hair, and it is a ****ing drag, all that straightening, back combing and hair spray.) Anyway, I still love this album. I love the confidence of it, and the trashy B-movie horror feel. And damn it, some of the songs are really catchy.
