I'd have to agree that screaming lead vocalists to generic hard riffs does not make a great metal band...
I love epic metal... the kind that, say, bands like My Dying Bride makes... good hard, diverse sounds, interesting, compelling, darkly poetic lyrics... lots of depth for one to lose oneself into... that is metal at its beat for my ears, anyways...
