It's more simple than you are making it.
The flash we saw of Daniel at the beginning of the Season was in the same time peroid (1977) as Sawyer, Juliet and Miles. The Orchid was under construction in that flash (which likely took place shortly after they moved in with the Dharma folk) as it was still under construction three years later. So we know it's around the same time (ie It
is the same 1977 that everybody else was in).
Daniel left on the sub shortly afterwards (probably still in 1977), went onto the mainland (but the year was still the 1970's) and then returned.
This indeed shows that it was not the Island which was skipping back and forth through time, but the survivors.
