Default A Stroll On The Dole

They sent me away for a stroll on the dole,
On a downhill road, hard as flints;
Onwards and downwards for mile after mile,
Finding it harder and harder to smile;
Down to the bottom of life's midden pile
Where I caught a bad dose of the skints.

A dose of the skints is a terrible thing;
It's worse than a dose of the pox.
It gets in your pockets, it gets up your nose;
Sometimes your elbows and often your toes
Come popping out of your sleeve or your shoe
Releasing the pong in your socks.

Down here at the bottom things always get worse
With never a hint of things better.
They wonder why we make such a big fuss
It's not happening to them, it's happening to us,
When things collapse they collapse on us;
With the law stamping hard on the debtor.

In our impotent rage we look up to the top
We see gluttony bulging from wallets
So full that they're bursting with ill-gotten gains
With so much to spare that it's running down drains
All nicked off the workers along with their brains
While the rest of the world's eating bullets.

Now Ive strolled down this road for a year and a day
I'm a long-term unemployed
But the road back up is a hell of a climb
And many like me are turning to crime
Getting arrested and doing their time
And becoming more than annoyed.

So don't let them send you away down that road
Or the rest of your life will turn sour
For it's coming to you as it came to me
They're not going to stop at millions three
You think you're safe? Don't wait and see.
Fight back, while you've still got the powere
