I would delay that flight until It's Only Rock n Roll came out, it's one of the better albums recorded in the 70's. I don't consider it their opus magnus; more the pinnacle of the Stones Hard Rock phase. And honestly I have no clue what they did after Tattoo You.
After It's Only RnR they were in and out of genres like Country and Reggae & Disco, (not that there is anything wrong with that) but at least on that album they had some of the hottest Hard Rock numbers they ever recorded. It was Mick Taylor last outing with the Stones, he was awesome on guitar.

I heard Keith wanted to split after Too Much Blood which reminds me of that song Bed Are Burning - horrible 80s music, & are both beyond criticism
I always thought that Midnight Oil was over-rated (with that rancid song Beds are Burning - that was the worst peice of dingo crap I ever heard.)
