Buckethead is good because he's got the subtle approach. The opposite approach is something like Yngwie Malmsteen, who straight up busts into a song and takes it over (man why wouldn't he anyway, he's Yngwie.) Buckethead plays nice with others; you can listen to his albums with Praxis or Bootsy and he shares energy with the other players, picks up on their ideas and reflects them.
So it's not just excessive amounts of technical prowess; it's good musicianship, good bandmembership. Something like "Endtime" on the Praxis album Profanation really highlights his low-key approach.
