that's the one that got critically panned because they took stuff downtempo on it. even today it's definitely not a fan favorite. if anything i'd say it's their most underrated release. they improved their melodic sense for both those albums and the songs show it.

Seasons in the Abyss is definitely on par with Reign in Blood, and the songs are far catchier.
Maybe it's just in the circles I travel in but my impression is that Reign in Blood, South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss are generally regarded as kind of the holy trinity of Slayer albums. I don't think South of Heaven is up to the level of the other two though, which is why I think it's kind of overrated.
