Although it's an old thread I'm bored!

I personally don't find drum machines cheating at all but they are almost always used for a clear asthetic purpose and usually within music that already has elements of Electronica. You can hear it's a drum machine and no illusions have been made to suggest otherwise so that's no bother.

However when it comes to double bass pedals then i cannot stand triggers myself and much more admire a guy/gal who can work both pedals with gusto. If I'm listening to music and knowing it's a live drummer then if double bass is used I would like to think that they are working both bass drums and not just one. I have seen some videos of Nile's drummer working the triggers and it is impressive but I much prefer the traditional method.
