I do the shopping on my own for the most part, too. I guess my argument comes from the fact that my "walking around" headphones are IEMs, so they block out most sound. I use the iPod earbuds because they are terrible and I miss too many sounds. But perhaps for shopping they would come in handy.

Also, I don't really hear much yapping when I'm shopping. I guess people keep to themselves around here. Maybe I'm just used to ignoring them.
