what has happened here is, that Eircom(the largest national internet provider) has willfully put inplace a 3 strikes policy, which will block a persons use of the internet entirely, for people
suspected by the IRMA(Irish Recorded Music Association) to have been participating in file sharing of music. The main reason for them to implement this policy was that IRMA threatened to sue eircom.
I'm not sure how strictly eircom is enforcing this policy, but I certainly haven't heard of anybodies internet access being withdrawn, part of this may have to do with the fact that the competing ISPs haven't got such a policy to begin with, and therefore it would give eircome a distinct competitive disadvantage.
Now IRMA is suing other ISP's...
