Exactly. And grunge, like hair metal, was merely a niche within popular music. In the 80s as well as in the 90s the biggest of the big stuff was pretty consistently just straight up pop music a la Michael Jackson. Nirvana didn't do anything to change that. They weren't even competing in the same arena as Michael Jackson.
