I think
Blair Witch Project might also be one of those movies that you had to see when it first came out to fully enjoy it. I saw it at a midnight screening before it even had it's general theatrical release so I knew basically nothing about the movie going in except that was some kind of disturbing documentary or something. It's not that I thought it was real while I was watching it but that tiny lingering doubt in the back of my mind really helped make it an extremely creepy movie experience for me. I wouldn't be surprised if, now that's it's ten years old and very well known, it's lost a lot of its punch for someone seeing it for the first time.
One a similar note, I just watched this movie for the first time:
Man Bites Dog
I have to confess I was expecting to like it more than I did, but I wonder if it's a similar situation to
Blair Witch Project, maybe if I had seen it in 1992 I would've loved it. It's definitely an interesting movie and I'd say it was definitely ahead of its time, just didn't grab me for whatever reason though.
