I'd rather believe in a boring god than a god that is pissed off all the time or a god that doesn't want us to take any role of responsibility in our own lives.
People may say that's a cruel god, to allow such suffering to take place in the world, but I dunno, to me that just makes god like a wildlife documentarian. A non interventionist who allows for us to have control over our own destiny. If anything that's the best possible kind of god to have.
