Man..that sounds like me! lol

I go through little cycles myself..I'll acquire a bit, then settle in and listen to what I've got, which in this case means, I'll try to give it a real, solid listen and will sub-consciously make notes the whole time: overall vibe, instrument interaction (or lack therof), overall composition, etc. etc. Basically when I come back to the piece of music I want to have something to remember from the initial listen. Then, the cycle starts up again...

Also I really push towards diversity as well...this helps to keep things fresh..it's pretty drastic on my end: Mussorgsky to Deicide to Nancy Griffith to Cameo to Liverpool to ...(you get my point)...
I understand that my genre jumping is pretty wacked, but it's what works for me!
