Brian Wilson was a musical genius and wrote some memorable music from the 60s. Two of his contributions would be Good Vibrations and God Only Knows. The band had harmony, and for a while clean good looks, which actually hid some of their darker sides. No one should under estimate any band's contribution to the music world.
