Kid A and Amnesiac were an acquired taste, for sure... but man, once I cracked the shell of those two albums, they were nothing but absolutely amazing musical perfection as far as I'm concerned... strange as they are, they are so rich in ideas and experimentation and it really finds the band branching out into new territory, which is always exciting for me... they're absolute classics to my ears...
But it was a departure to the more conventional structures of their previous works, so I can see how some fans became alienated...
