Ah, now, well, *coughs*...In the English language, we have certain rules of grammar that allow us to be able to communiate with less problems:
I will first illustrate continunity - thus - British people's opinions. The opinions belong to the British people and as they have more than one opinion, they therefore are plural (that means there's more than one).
Also, we have contraction - it is said anything, not any thing. The gap has merely disappeared over time and is pronounced in aforementioned manner.
