I was an online gamer myself. I enjoyed it very much. A lot of my friends still are. I'm saying that some games don't need an online feature, they'll force people to play the game in a social environment. Let's face it, if two friends have super mario bros wii and a Wifi connection, they arent going to travel to each others houses to play it. But if the function isn't included, it'll force people to play socially. Which I think can only be a good thing for certain types of games.
However, in the case of some games such as FPS', I think an online feature is now almost necessary because split-screen is an incredibly awkward and frustrating way to play.
