To my knowledge it was slightly slower and, obviously, didn't feature the amount of weaponry/smash balls... but you can turn all those off anyway
It's not major to anyone but tourney nuts who nitpick over the most stupid sh*t.

Brawl did a lot more to balance the roster out, meaning a lot of older characters are not as insanely powerful as they use to be, which pisses some people off. And unlike Melee, all the characters have their uses and I pretty much have fun using all of them

A lot of the abusable glitches and special techniques are either removed entirely, very downplayed in their usefulness or made more difficult to do. The defensive strategy has been improved upon greatly, making it harder to break defenses, enemies don't flinch as much when they get hit, which makes doing combos a lot harder, arial attacks and grab moves are also trickier. There's also the tripping, which dosen't happen that often but it means that not even strict tourney matches are completely safe from a random outcome that could change the tide of a battle based on pure luck, I'm pretty much convinced Sakurai added that little touch specifically to piss these people off.

This game is still as easy to pick up and play as previous games, and there's the ridiculous amount of added content of course, it has all the things that just make it a more complete and fun experience than previous games. Only thing is it's a lot harder to become a pro at this game than at Melee, which makes it a lot more balanced for fighters of all skill types, and seriously, that's the only reason people hate it.

I mean, a fun and balanced game that anyone can play? That's just f*cking unacceptable. What use is a game if I can't show off at it? Making sure that less skilled players get just as much of a fun experience? NINTENDO HOW DARE YOU! Smash Bros is for the hardcoar only!!!!!11!!

Being good at a video game is serious f*cking business.
