this is going to be a controversial choice. but really cant see the big thing musically with the ramones. definetly more of an image band to me.
other bands that were definetly more about image and iconic staus thm music were the sex pistols (except glen matlock- come on now, the clash , the fall and buzz****s were the only real musically talented british punk groups of the 70s/80s), happy mondays, slipknot (despite the fact i actually like quite a few of their songs), the darkness, most of this new wave of gothic- nu metal ****e..i'll think of more later
