Yeah, grime is dead. I liked grime mainly because the British rappers stopped trying to act completely American. I pop in Roll Deep and it sounds British. I pop in a new Dizzee, Kano, or Wiley track and it sounds American. I am not going to go to Britain to listen to what has already been perfected here.
Hip-hop, at least the lyrically based form has already been dieing. Kanye and all them have been killing it. I mean to sound cliche, but it will soon. All the new good hip-hop is gangsta ****. They have some good metaphors and flows, but I get tired of hearing about diamonds, cars, and gats. Then you have the alternative scene, which is also pathetically boring. I am tired of Lupe's "feel sorry for starving African kids" image. I just want hip-hop like The Cool Kids do it. It has to go back to being fun.
I think grime could survive, but seeing young talents like Chipmunk ditch it makes me doubt it.
