Of course it's about the importance of time, of random facts, of destiny etc ... but no one is making it a theological/philosophical subject. Actually the whole hype about this movie is cause the German cinema had been in some kind of depression since the Sound was introduced to cinema, and that was the movie that seemed to rise the German scene from the ashes.

I can see what you are saying but directors like Wim Wenders, Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Werner Herzog were flying the flag for German cinema long before but I agree that the 80's were a lean time for Germany.
