Yep, agree - the gameplay is just lacking and I think the levels are for the most part boring and often confusing.
I think my personal favourite platformer for the SNES is Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse.
Aside from Mickey moving just a little bit slow, it's got everything. Great graphics, awesome music, varied gameplay, good controls, humour and good overall charm. At least it beats Earthworm Jim by a landslide.
