I don't find anything bad about the controls, though the whip does take some practice, using it to graple onto things requires a bit of accuracy and it should only be used for a weapon as a last resort because it really sucks as a melee weapon, the gun however is perfectly fine and only a n00b will ever run out of ammo. I also find it a bit akward that when you get a new weapon you can't switch back to your main one until you've used up your powerup which means you can save it for when you really want to use it, the SNES version fixed that problem though. (I still prefer the Genesis version for other reasons).

As for the level design, I've never had any trouble at all when deciphering what's in the foreground and what's in the background, if it looks like I can jump on it then I probably can.

I love this game, I had a lot of great memories back in the day but I still enjoy it just as much now, it might not be the most innovative platformer of it's time, but it's certainly creative, it was the early predecessor to games like Conker's Bad Fur Day and Psychonauts, and like those games what it lacked in groundbreaking gameplay was made up for by it's incredible amount of variety, unique style and tons of personality.

The presentation, character designs, humor, graphics and music are all fantastic, but what I love most about the game is how drastically the design changes with each level, one moment you're navigating underwater mazes in a submarine, the next you're bungie jumping in a giant pit of bubbling hot mucus, and after that you're trying to escort a puppy through a meteor shower. The game has a steep learning curve but my favorite kinds of platformers are the ones that constantly change things up and keep you on your toes and Earthworm Jim does that better than most.

My only real complaint about the game is that it's a bit short. Other than that it's still one of my favorite games.

We'll just have to disagree heavily on this one.

Yep, agree - the gameplay is just lacking and I think the levels are for the most part boring and often confusing.
Wuh? Catapulting cows with refrigerators. Demonic snowmen. Giant hamsters. Bungie jumping giant snot monsters. Mutating puppies. A giant ass for a level. Boring? C'mon.

I could understand you not liking it but the last thing I'd call this game is boring.
