I remember when I was pretty little, watching a movie on TV with my dad. Have no idea what the name of it was, but it basically took place in the near future, and by that time society had decided that they wanted everyone to be average and mediocre in all walks of life instead of actually excelling at anything.
In the movie getting a C on a test was complimented and getting an A was scolded, and also the music was just all incredibly boring generic sounding pop...and that's all there was, you couldn't get anything else. Was horrifying.
In the end the main character is a super-genius and manages to turn society around almost single-handedly. One of the scenes I remember most is when he manages to take over a TV station and play a really soulful jazz video with an amazing sounding sax on it. The camera shows people around the world watching this and their jaws just dropping. Was really epic.
god I wish I could remember the name of that movie. I'd really like to see it again now ><
