On my way home I was listening to Bitstream (an IDM duo sounding a bit like a more melodic Autechre) and heard some heavy hip-hop influence, which reminded me of Meat Beat Manifesto. Rap + industrial + electronic. 1988-9.

This early MBM stuff is amazing on a good sound system. YouTube compression (and mp3 compression prior to that) kills the bass.
