Kottke is great. I'm not that familiar with his earlier material and I'd like to be, but my favorites from him are:
- "Live" from 1995 which showcase solo acoustic versions of tracks from his preceding 7 Windham Hill albums all of which have a few standout tracks, with fuller instrumentation, only some of which are showcased here. Some of his stuff is pretty eccentric and he's got a pretty good and dry sense of humor in his stage banter that's also on display. It's a good live disc.
- His next LP: "Standing in my Shoes" from 1997- has a cool version of Lindsay Buckingham/Fleetwood Mac's "World Turning", a couple really cool instrumentals (Vaseline Machine Gun & Cripple Creek (not the same as The Band's song)), and a cool mellow verion of Dylan's/Traditional's Corrina Corrina.
- His two with Mike Gordon (bassist from Phish): "Clone" and " Sixty-six Steps" from 2002 and 2005 respectively. Those are both pretty solid.
