admittedly i haven't listened to either album since sometime in the early 90s but i remember the first disc being a much stronger album than the 2nd.

I have the exact opposite opinion from you on part of this. I think
II is far, far superior to
I, and it's
I that's chock full of filler. That said, I wouldn't rate any GnR album as my favorite rock/metal of all time and I think it's pretty funny that anyone would describe GnR as sounding like nothing else.
