Have you checked out any of Carla Kihlstedt's other bands, like Sleepytime Gorilla Museum or Tin Hat (formerly Tin Hat Trio)? They don't sound exactly like The Book of Knots but there are definitely some similarities. Also, if you're not already a Tom Waits fan, he's very much in the vein of BoK as well (
Bone Machine is probably the way to go it you want to hear that side of Tom).
