The whole Northern Soul scene in England (fast, black Amercan soul music) relies heavily on original 60's vinyl. The rarer the better!
D.J.s at allnighter venues are expected to play nothing but vinyl.
These rare soul records exchange hands today, for 10's, 100's and even 1000's of pounds.

Do I Love You - Frank Wilson sold for a cool 15,000 quid ( only 3 known copies in the world) in recent years!
I know one D.J. who's been collecting since the 70's, he had his spins valued at just over £100,000. Definately NOT a waste of money.
Vinyl has something...dunno...guess it just feels better to own than a cd.
