Did you just try to use Pitchfork as a source of why music is good? That's pushing it, seeing as Pitchfork are always trying to be ironic and post-modern.
This band isn't a 'little bit of everything'. It's more like a copy of distinctions that certain bands carry and melded into one. And least with 'Cymbals Eat Guitars' their vocalist's energy is completely different than the Kinsellas were. That's 90's revival I can fathom.
The fact is, if I were to put an album by this band on a player and let it go, people would say:
'Hey, this is the new ______ isn't it?'
'No, it's definitely the new _____ with more of a laid-back feel, you know? I was reading up on IndieToday about it.'
'You're both wrong, this is definitely that hidden track on that _____ album that was released last year, you guys just weren't indie enough to listen through to hear it!'
I've tested this before, too.
