Drag City reissue of Royal Trux self-titled 3rd lp ... more listenable than I was expecting, I've got it on the background for a 2nd play right now ... the last of their full-lengths (or EPs) that I didn't have in some form ... you have to listen through the skrank and clamor but the songs are there and they're pretty good ... it's tempting to learn 'em all just to demonstrate to myself what the structures and melodies are underneath ... though for them it is fairly stripped down, at that, being just rhythm (often acoustic) guitar, drums, vocals, maybe a bass, often a single overdubbed lead guitar ... I wonder if they were trying to cover up their alleged incompetence or their actual songwriting ability by disguising themselves as a noise band?
