I don't know Lee's partners reasons, but mine are unselfish. (not saying hers are...I wouldn't know)
Life for the boy would be infinitely easier if he wasn't in a town like this.
The levels of tolerance here are quite high, but even so, he'd still be in for a rough ride. (so to speak).
