It amazes me more that you even mentioned Captain Beefheart, (they're relatively semi-obscure imo), I never heard them on the radio, they are one of those bands that the average person doesn't know about, and you'll never hear about them unless it's a music critic or someone on a music forum.
(I have their best of CD, I like some of their stuff.)
