For me the best intro is definitely 'Tri Repetae'. It has that harshness about it, is accessible enough (at least as far as they go!) and also for me their best LP.

I can't disagree with that...I think
Tri Repetae was my intro and it worked for me. And you're right that
Amber is much more ambient than their others, but it's still pretty glitchy and abstract at times...and really all their albums are different from the last so it's always hard to recommend a good starting point.
So for anyone wanting to try
Tri Repetae...the US version came as a double CD called
Tri Repetae++, but I'd suggest starting out with just the first CD, the album proper.
