I do think there are things about it that are sad and depressing, the guy does have some serious flaws, but everybody has flaws, Mark seems like a very desperate guy, I can see that being depressing, but I share his enthusiasm as an inspiring filmmaker, that's what drives the whole film for me and I found myself rooting for him even if I found some of the things he did to be questionable and even if he isn't terribly talented.
I can make a sure bet his films are better than anything Cassavetes has ever done though, I know that's not saying much.
