I wouldn't vote Jody Watley queen of anything musical. Haha. Don't know if there was ever one dominant and consistent "Queen" of funk. Teena Marie is definitely up there. Nona Hendryx of Labelle also comes to mind. Also Betty Davis who was Miles Davis' second wife. Betty is the one who turned Miles on to Jimi and Sly and all the great funk and r&b that would influence his later music like Bitches Brew. Her own music was very revolutionary in a soul/rock genre back in the 70s. Unfortunately she only released three albums amid alot of scandal and protest from religious groups for her open sexual attitude. She was Prince before Prince. Had her music been more popular, she would be the natural heir to the throne.
