I don't see anything wrong with extremeness for the sake of extremity. Nobody says you have to believe everything you write about. A narrator can be a charachter too.
On a completely unrelated point, I think that's why some musicians prefer to perform with masks on- it creates a difference in-between the "you" that does the shopping and the "you" that does the rapping.
