I'm in the "holding the thing in your hand" Camp.
I buy physical copies of both CD's & Vinyl.
Because of my age I'm not bothered about getting new stuff as soon as it hits the shops or becomes available to download.
The last band I tried to get albums asap was during Oasis' releasing albums.
I must admit I do a lot of sifting in Charity shops and Cash Generator shops for other peoples unwanted music and in many cases I've unearthed some real gems both on vinyl and CD.
As I buy a lot of second hand music I realise that this is not financially rewarding the bands in question... but TBH I don't care.
On a positive note I'm actually recycling music and this can only be good for the enviroonment.
People have commented that downloading is probably the death Knell for physical albums. Quite possibly, but with "The Young uns" downloading so much I feel it has brought the cost down in places like HMV & Fopp and the like. Not always on new releases but on newish albums.
BTW... If an album comes out after year 2000 I consider it new!
I did have a phase about 3 years ago of downloading obscure Reggae & Dub which I'd probably never get on physical format. The problem I've since found with several of the burned copies is a very short life span and even when fresh an inferior quality of sound.
I saw highlighhts of Glastonbury 2009 on TV and buzzed off Maximo Park's performance prompting me a few days later to buy "A Certain Trigger" on CD. This was inspired by the tune called Apply some Pressure. After hearing the album I digged at least 5 tracks and subsequently bought "Our Earthly Pleasures". A great album for me.
If I'd have downloaded Apply some Pressure as a single unit I may not have explored Maximo Park in the way I did.
For me I like having the CD/Vinyl in my hand. I like the ritual of dropping on the turntable or pressing play and hearing it come through my speakers on my HIFI or Stereo. I don't get this computer thing that all your songs are on a big list.
Also I hate when "DJ's" turn up to do a night somewhere with a friggin Laptop and plug it in and away they go!
If anyone does that on here and makes a living from it then fair enough... but I think it's Lazy TBH.
