Pretty much the only time I’ll ever download a release is if it’s super rare or out of print and costs an absolutely ridiculous amount to buy.
Aside from the fact that I like to support the artists, a big part of the enjoyment is actually having the album outlay/artwork in front of me as a full piece of art in it’s entirety. This is especially the case when the release is being done by a label who takes a lot of time and effort with this sort of thing.
There’s one good store downtown here that has a fairly good selection of underground extreme metal and obscure music in general, only thing is it’s not uncommon for them to sell cd’s around $22 CAN or so (or even more) without taxes.
I’ll shop there occasionally if they have something I want and am too impatient to wait for mail delivery at the moment but much more often I’ll just go to one of the handful of small online distros/labels I like and get the releases for much much cheaper.
Amazon can be useful occasionally too.
