I wasn't really around when they were huge, but from looking back at history I think alot of their sucess also had to do with the period of time the USA was going through. Of course you can say that about any trend or style, but I think it applies in their case. There is nothing wrong with you liking them though. At least you like them for the music and not just for the image (thats how you come across at any rate). Being a "true" fan reqires liking something, even when it isan't popular anymore...
