I'm still debating the issue. On one hand they produced brilliant songs like Ramble Tamble and Run Through the Jungle and are well respected by even the punk ideologists who disavowed classic rock. On the other they were all over the place on even their best albums and churned out shit songs with the rest of them.
In a toss-up between the Dead and CCR, I've got to go with the Dead every time, but I'm not sure how that's relevant to whether they were HOF material.
