It is most definitely a grower. I liked it at first, but like it more after about 5-6 listens now. I agree with you that
This is Embracing is better, and maybe even his first one,
Runbox Weathers, but the EP is a more manageable length so it gets points for that. It's a bit of a different direction, and I'm curious where he'll go from here. Hopefully he's got an LP in the works since that's technically an EP (some places call it an album, some an EP...so who knows).
