Too wide to narrow down in a single definition. Mostly various sub-genres of rock, though. Post-rock and shoegaze but also folk and various kinds of metal (mostly drone-ier doomish such, or sludge).
In terms of favourite bands: Envy and Swans.
You don't have to tell me none of this would exist was it not for those classical musicians and bands that's basic music history. I know that very well.
