Ludwig Van Beethoven

Ludwig Van Beethoven (12/17/1770-3/26/1827) was a very influential classical composer who was composing during the 1790's through the 1820's (not including "Piano Concerto no.0" which was composed in the 1780's but released posthumously). He was crucial in the transitional period from classical to romantic music. The composer popularized motifs, pairing choirs with orchestras, and much more. Amazingly, he was deaf when composing some of his most famous works. He has written staples that many beginning musicians learn such as Ode To Joy and Fur Elise. The opening to his fifth symphony is equally as iconic (ba-da-da-dum). The icon was also the first to use tempo markings such as

, which is ubiquitous today. In addition to writing great music, he also played piano, and was known for his improvisation skills. His symphonies alone have been recorded over 70 times. His influence includes Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, Chopin, and Schubert as well as rock icons such as The Beatles, Queen, and Nirvana.
