It's all opinion based. And our opinions obviously cannot co-exist. I enjoy the album but saying that the album contains Ben Gibbard's "best melodies" is completely false
to me. I use to believe Plans was Death Cab's best album too but after serious listening to the band's early work, I quickly changed my mind. Everything about the pre-Plans Death Cab screams "better" to me. From the melodies, to the lyrics, to the overall feel and sound.
You can continue to enjoy Plans whilst I'll listen to the band's actual gems.
