Its true that these franchises don't exactly advance each game from year to year so much but rather just update.
However using FIFA and Prto Evo as an example, these slight alterations can also be important. Pro Evo had been the best football game out there for a long, long time and although FIFA didnt change much from year to year, within two years (the release of '09 and '10 i think) they managed to be widely recognised as being back on top again.
Wrestling games havent been the same since the N64. Those games were great games, whether you like wrestling or not. Just like i used to enjoy NHL games but have no interest in hockey at all. Now, its true, the games dont change much but if you compare them a few years apart rather than year on year, you will notice that there has been progress.
