In my defense, I got the game in a Bullfrog games bundle with no instructions(along with other ****ty games with a similar concept as Populous...the only half decent game was this one called Syndicate)...and I was like 5. Every few months I would decide to load that thing up and try to figure it out, but I could never get it.

It's a god game, probably the game that invented that whole genre. Basically you play some kind of deity and you guild a budding civilization and help it grow. Pretty straightforward premise really.
It's no Sim City, but it's an enjoyable game if you like sims (I do) and it's also worth checking out at least once for it's historical significance.
