Owing to the world cup I've barely watched any movies lately, so this is my first in quite a while...
Based on the historical novel by some bloke whose name I'm forgotten about the St Bartholomew's Day Massacre in Paris in 1572, and the conniving efforts of the Catholic French royal family to oppress the provincial Protestant ones in some way or other. Very well-written and gripping snapshot of a violently intolerant part of French history, made all the more interesting by some absorbing performances from the central cast and pretty nifty photography.
